On August 11, 1997, Slater attacked his girlfriend, fashion editor Michelle Jonas, after becoming intoxicated on alcohol and heroin. After fighting with police and screaming 'The Germans are coming and they will kill us!', Slater was arrested and charged with battery and assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentence to three months in prison, but ultimately only served 59 days.
